|Phuket's Multihull Friendly Boatyards|
Leading in Phuket for haul out rates, short term and long term storage is Premier Boatyard in the north of the island. Set on the foreshore of Phang Nga Bay between Yacht Haven Marina and Phuket Bridge on the east coast of Phuket and separated from the highway by sizable rubber plantations one of which is their own plantation this yard has all the needed facilities for lift out of multihulls.
They have two state of the art Roodberg submersible hydraulic trailers, one RBT60T and another HBC20T. The 60t trailer will yachts and powerboats to 75' with a maximum draft of 8' (2.3m) and they have lifted a cat that was 80'. The smaller HBC20 trailer will handle vessels up to 50' and 2.5m draft, cats to 55'.
The slip was custom made as was the protected lagoon it is located in. An easy slope specially to suit the Roodberg trailers with tie offs a plenty on each side for the line handlers. There is also a second slip straight into the bay.
Premier is a relatively new yard in operation for some 3 years and are continually upgrading their facility. They have three phase and single phase power to all sites, a decent shower and toilet block, availability of teams to do antifouling and more complicated work, excellent water supply from their own dams. There is a small shop with basics. You can even go for a swim as the bay water right up that end is quite clean with a regular tide sweeping in and out.PHUKET YACHT HAVEN MARINA
A very short distance away is Phuket Yacht Haven Marina with shops, chandlery, restaurants, taxis and mini-buses to the airport 15 minutes away and lots more due to its recent major upgrade, plenty of wet berths for anything from a dinghy to a superyacht. The two facilities Premier Boatyard and Phuket Yacht Haven Marina cooperate and complement each other very well. A reasonably quick yacht tender could make a run in about 10 minutes between the two as they are much closer by water. By road about 20 minutes. Khun Ditipong will make you welcome.
Equipment: Roodberg hydraulic trailer RBT60 tons capacity, pulled by Huge caterpillar tractor - motor yacht, sail boat, catamaran, trimaran 80ft LOA monohull, 80+ft LOA multihull, 8ft draft, 40ft beam. Roodberg hydraulic trailer HBC20 ton capacity.
The next yard south is Ao Po Grande Marina and would you believe another Roodberg lift system. They are running an RBT47T hydraulic trailer with pull and hydraulics power but a sizable tractor. It's a very rare occasion that beam is a problem for either of these hardstand facilities given the Roodberg system is a hydraulic lift that lifts the hulls from underneath rather than the travel lift systems that are restricted by the beam of the machinery. Both yards have built custom add on systems to allow wider beamed cats to be slipped safely lifted under the hulls. They often say people make the place and this is very much the case with Derrick Van Deventer the marina and hardstand manager. A top guy and great service given.
Equipment: Roodberg hydraulic trailer RBT47 tons capacity, pulled another huge tractor - motor yacht, sail boat, catamaran, trimaran 75ft LOA monohull, 75ft LOA multihull, 8ft draft, 40ft beam
Current rate is Bt589 per haulout, and hardstand charges same as in the water with no surcharges for multihulls. Discounts apply for long term. Lots of related hardstand services and equipment available. Full marina facilities, restaurants, chandler www.eastmarineasia.com , swimming pools and up market accommodation. Access is generally all tide.
G&T a smaller slipway also in Ao Po area hasn't a Roodberg but they have been busy building their own local clone of the Roodberg albeit a rusty but functional contraption, given it has similar principles of operation is also lifts multihulls safely, quickly and with ease.
As with the Roodberg lifts theirs has the same advantages of placing vessels close to each other making better use of their "boutique" yard. G&T also offer simple bungalow accommodation so you can live comfortably whilst working on you multihull or while you supervise workers.
As with Ao Po Grande G&T have a top team who are the owner managers Gerry and Toi. They haven't a website but do not let that deter you from checking them out.M9 YARD
At the south of the island M9Yard a relatively new yard has set up for multihulls also with a Roodberg HBC38 hydraulic trailer with 38t capacity. M9 can lift vessels to 65' with a draft of 2.5m and beam is no issue.
Another major multihull yard is CBS Boatyard next to M9. They have the honour of being the first specialist multihull yard in Phuket and are pretty well the King of the southern Phuket multihull yards. They actually modelled their first steel trailer off one I had built years before around 2005 when I became disheartened with the prices being charged up here for slipping multihulls. Some yards charged double and others pretty well looked you up and down and decided on how much they thought they could get. My old trailer is long gone, rusted away and the scrap metal sold. Thank god things haven't been like that for many years. All of the yards have clearly listed rates now and no smoke and mirrors with the prices. Even so get it all in writing and clearly understood before proceeding so there are no misunderstandings.
For CBS, an average size catamaran, let's say 40 foot would cost Bt11,200 for a haulout; Bt440 per day for storage & Bt11,200 per month for storage. It needs to be noted that both CBS and M9 have limited single phase power and power cuts. Both have backup generation in single and three phase but it is charged. Good idea to have a small generator or a good inverter run off solar at these yards. As my business is in Chalong Bay all my cats from www.chartercatamaran.com Niña 38ft, Oasis 48ft, and new build Siesta 55ft slip there.
Both M9 and CBS are 100% Thai run so just be patient when communicating. They have people onsite who can translate and they have proper price lists and are very experienced hauling and hardstanding multihulls.YARDS WITH TRAVEL LIFTS:
