Superyachts in Asia - Does Size Matter Superyachts in Asia - Does Size Matter Ask this question to the owners of shipyard Jade Yachts Inc. and they will nod a vigorous "Yes!" Their latest big baby, JADE 959, available on the charter market since October 2015, has a respectable LOA of 52 m/170 ft and measures a beamy width of 9.4 m/ 31 ft.

Not only size but also quality is of utmost importance to Jade Yachts Inc. "We aim to build socalled 'boutique mega yachts', with the finest workmanship, the best materials and a meticulous finish", Vice Chairman of Jade Yachts Inc. Memphis Han says. "Each of our luxury yachts requires 22 months to build."

Taiwanese Jade Yachts Inc. is situated in the southern port city of Kaohsiung. The company is a division of commercial ship builder Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Group, founded in 1985 which has built more than four hundred ships, including all sizes of tough commercial deep-sea fishing boats, patrol crafts, cruisers, ferries, working ships, tugboats and aluminum speedboats. Jade Yachts was established in 2004 as a division specializing in luxurious steel-aluminum made large-sized yachts.

The mega yacht hulls are assembled from numerous pieces of steel plates, precisely finished into a curved shape without visible jointing. Each piece of wooden furniture is sanded and painted layer by layer, while metal parts are carefully polished to mirror-like shine and smoothness. Jade Yachts Inc. uses high-graded materials for sleek and sophisticated interiors, including marble and soft leathers.

Design company Central Yacht was commissioned to create the interior arrangement and design of the 52 m motor yacht project, JADE 959, resulting in an understated elegance. A tour of JADE 959 reveals Jade Yachts Inc. has indeed the top-notch capabilities to produce the finery expected of a modern superyacht.

JADE 959 has a muted, neutral color palette and plush leather furniture, custom-built by Italian fashion house Fendi. The full-beam salon includes a bar, spacious seating area and a large table for formal dining. There is a state-of-the-art entertainment system including artfully sculpted MBL radial speakers. Two priceless antique sandalwood artworks at the salon entrance diffuse a pleasant aroma throughout the salon.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests in 6 cabins. The sleeping quarters comprise two double Master 'family' staterooms with Jacuzzi bathtub, two double and two twin staterooms.

A charter vacation on JADE 959 does not have to detract from work: each of the two Master staterooms has private office space. In addition, one of the Masters has a huge lounge, which can be closed off for business meetings or get-togethers.

Guests can also spend private time in the openair, top deck loft with sofas and soft-cushioned sunbeds. The flybridge forward has a full-width children's room/TV lounge with panoramic views and cushions all around to snuggle and use the two playstations. On the aft deck, a large Jacuzzi is available for refreshing dips in between sunbathing on the surrounding sunloungers.

An arsenal of toys and tenders—including kayaks, wakeboards, paddleboards, personal watercraft, water skis, an inflatable donut, and tenders—promise unlimited fun in the sun. There is a fully kitted out dive store and snorkeling and fishing gear. After an active day on the water and/or on land, guests can relax in the yoga/massage room under the hands of a skilled Thai massage therapist. JADE 959 is available for charter in the Maldives from the end of December until April. Her summer location will be confirmed and she will return to Asia in November 2016.
