SporTop versions of the Lagoon 52 and 450 (without the flybridge) have recently been displayed and well-received.

The memorable success of the first Lagoon catamarans equipped with a flybridge fitted steering station (Lagoon 440 & Lagoon 500) clearly demonstrated the merits of this innovation. Today however, quite a few sailors who wish to enjoy the comfort of a large catamaran are looking for a more conventional steering station location, especially if they are sailing short-handed.

This is what prompted Lagoon in developing the new SporTop range that offers a bulkhead mounted steering station on two of the yard's bestsellers: The Lagoon 450 and Lagoon 52. This alternative range further expands your choice possibilities in consideration of your sailing program. The Lagoons 450 and 52 are the two bestsellers in the Lagoon range, partly thanks to their superb flybridges, the design which Lagoon launched in 2004, and which attracted a great deal of attention before being adopted by many other catamaran builders.

All catamarans in the Lagoon range over 45' are equipped with a flybridge. However, because "it takes all kinds to make a world", Beneteau decided to meet the need of those sailors who do not want a flybridge area and developed the new SporTop versions of the Lagoons 450 and 52, featuring a more conventional and secure helm station (up against the coach house bulkhead) which provides easier direct communication with the crew in the cockpit, as well as a lowered rig, which reduces pitching and makes access to the boom easier, while keeping the same sail area.

So, sailors can now choose between a Fly Bridge or SporTop version of the Lagoons 450 and 52 ranges. New names of these models are: 450 F, 450 S, 52 F and 52 S. To mark the occasion, Lagoon has also asked Nauta to work on a new interior design for these two models: For the Lagoon 52, a new U-shaped galley gives better worktop layout and, with no central island, the galley is more practical and the saloon more spacious. For the Lagoon 450, the U-shaped galley has been turned 90° to provide more direct access to the saloon and cockpit. This makes the worktops in the galley much more user-friendly. The forward cabins on the Lagoon 450 have also been modified: they are now wider and more comfortable, with semi-island double beds and a lateral access.

These new layouts will be applied to both FlyBridge and SporTop versions of the Lagoons 450 and 52. The Simpson Marine Yacht Charter in Phuket can rent Lagoons for beautiful charter holidays all year round.

FlyBridge or SporTop: what is the difference?
  • With the SporTop versions, the new cabin-top design creates a more elegant and punchier outline
  • The SporTop versions offer a large sunbathing area on the cabintop
  • The sail areas are the same with both versions. However, the lower mast and boom on the SporTop versions reduces pitching, and makes the boom easier to access
  • The cabin-top bulkhead fitted steering position includes the following:
    » All maneuvers
» Integated large helm station seat
» Access from the cockpit and the deck
  • An optional extra safety system is also offered, with a tilting (sliding for the Lagoon 52) composite beam to close off the steering station in bad weather.
  • A composite Bimini above the steering area is available as an option.
Inside, both models are now benefiting from significant improvements in their FlyBridge and SporTop versions:
  • A new "U" shape designed galley including:
    » Larger hot plates
    » Larger work space
    » More storage
» Easier access from the cockpit (Lagoon 450)
  • The Lagoon 450 S features new front cabins with side access, wider double beds.

Simpson Marine returns

The new Monte Carlo Yacht 80, the sixth yacht in the collection, positions itself ideally between the award winning MCY 76 and MCY 86, and continues in Monte Carlo Yachts' tradition of combining visionary design with concrete results.

When first tasked with designing the new MCY 80, the team at Nuvolari Lenard and Monte Carlo Yachts were faced with more than just creating a new yacht. The challenge was to elevate the very concept of the yacht to powerful and refined new heights.

"With Monte Carlo Yachts we always strive for maximum space and comfort on board, but we also never forget we're not building a villa, but a boat," say Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, the boat's designers. "While designing the MCY 80, we were inspired by ideas of flair and finesse, and you can see how that transferred from the concept sketches to the real thing."

At 24 meters, the new MCY 80 takes its place on the podium as the third largest yacht in the collection and delivers pure cruising pleasure alongside an unparalleled ride and comfort experience. With smooth exterior lines and shaped bulwarks which enhance the level of light and space across the main deck, the MCY 80 boasts a curvy, modern look without being too sharp or minimalistic. Signature elements include a class-leading entertainment foredeck and Portuguese bridge that no other yacht in this size category can match. The flybridge, an iconic characteristic of the MCY range, can be equipped with a Jacuzzi, large bar area and sunbathing chaise lounges to create an exterior hideaway that is as luxurious as it is intimate.

Like with the other yachts in the collection, an instant sense of spaciousness both inside and out becomes immediately apparent upon boarding the MCY 80. The main saloon and the cabins are flooded with natural light and offer lushly appointed and detailed spaces for both social and private moments. The brushed and bleached oak floorings found throughout set an elegant ambiance that is further enhanced by precious leather and stone features. Design furnishing choices such as the Hermes, Armani Casa and Minotti elements complete an interior that is effortlessly modern and tasteful.

"This is the sixth yacht in as many years, a result that speaks of the company's capacity to invest in product and development while always aiming for boats incorporating beautiful aesthetics and nautical performance. The MCY 80 embodies these concepts and takes the signature naval allure of the range to the next level," says Carla Demaria, President of Monte Carlo Yachts.

The MCY 80 is designed and built at MCY's Monfalcone state-of-the-art shipyards, which count 18,000 square meters of covered facilities. Recently, the site has been expanded with an additional 3,000 square meters that include the new spray booth for boats over 60 meters in length.

For those wishing to have an Monte Carlo Yacht to enjoy this summer in Thailand, Simpson Marine has a brokerage section with a few MCYs listed for immediate sale, including an MCY 65, MCY 70 and MCY 86.
