Some good news for you this month. P&O Ferries is once again accepting foot passengers for its Dover-Calais sailings.

Foot passengers were last accepted many months ago, as europebyrail.eu reported.

Of course this way of reaching France would suit only the intrepid reader.

But for those of you who live at or near the Channel ports it will save that lengthy backtrack to the capital – Eurostar will not be calling at its Kent stations until 2023.

Eurostar will not serve Kent until 2023

P&O is operating five sailings in each direction between Dover and Calais.

Full details of the schedule, immigration and medical rules can be found here.

When reaching Calais one can proceed to Calais Ville (SNCF station) for regular trains to Lille or Paris Nord.

Some trains are rostered as a TGV service (these are marked as “TGV inOui”)

If intending to travel onwards by rail then allow ample time to make the connection.

What about Irish Ferries, which recently entered the Dover-Calais route?

The operator sails five times a day on the same route. At the time of writing it is not accepting foot passengers, but this could change so check when booking.
