A small fleet of seven boats and around fifty participants took to the water for a beautiful day's sailing in and

around Phuket's Chalong Bay in early October. Organized by the Phuket Yacht Club, this inaugural power and sail rally was created in memory of
the late PYC Commodore, Mark Horwood and all entry fees were donated to the 'One Phuket' charity foundation.

Starting at midday a course was set starting from the Chalong Bay port channel marker to a buoy positioned adjacent to Mark's old, Latitude 8 boat-building workshop, and then on to the southern Island of Koh Bon, rounding to port and return. Fresh 12-17 knots winds saw all boats sailing quickly and completing the course in a shade under two hours. Glasses and ice-cold stubbies were raised in celebration of Mark's life and we all know he'd be very proud to be supporting such a worthy cause though the sport he dedicated so many years of his life too.

Live music, a complimentary BBQ sponsored by Really Good Deli and a magnificent salad bar prepared by the PYC restaurant kept spirits high for participants and visitors on their return to the club. An auction of an antique, bronze speed-log followed raising an additional seven thousand baht, rounding off a really fun and successful day.
